Catherine Theresa Hypolite Rushing better known as "Tennie" to her loved ones passed away at age 73 on Tuesday, October 3rd, 2023 at Kindred Hospital in Houston Texas following a lengthy battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Catherine was born to Patrick and Maydel Valsin Hypolite on October 6th,1949 in St. Martinville, Louisiana. She was the second child out of eight children. Catherine graduated from Adam Carlson High school in 1967 in St. Martinville, Louisiana. After graduation she went on to attend Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Development in 1971. Catherine's worklife included working with children as a daycare teacher and educational supervisor at Galveston Early Childhood Learning Center, a director at San Jacinto College childhood department, a client service worker at (NCI) Neighborhood Centers Inc. and in retirement a substitute teacher in the Clear Creek Independent School District.
Catherine was always full of energy and was never without words! Every room she entered and every person she met, an impression was definitely left. She enjoyed spending time with family, but her greatest enjoyment came from being outdoors in her YARD! As a substitute teacher, Catherine left a profound impression on all the kids that she taught. She was affectionately known to many as "Grandma"! Catherine will definitely be missed by all. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Marvin Sr. and Zachary Hypolite; brother in law Raymond Stevenson. Catherine is survived by her husband of 49 years Otis Rushing. She also leaves behind her daughter Ashlyn Searles, son in law Rodney Searles and Willie (Oreva) Rushing; sister-in-law Delcenia Wright; grandchildren RodneyII (Deuce), Reagan, and Trey Searles. Her siblings Pamela Norman (Steward), Kernis Hypolite, Steven Hypolite (Mayra), Louise Rollins (Jessie), and Melissa Love (Tracy). One godson, Byron Norman and a host of neices, nephews, relatives and friends.
