Larry Moore Obituary

Larry C. Moore Sr. was born November 11, 1951 in Natchez, MS to the late Sadie Moore Long & Mr. Willie James. He was the 5th of 6 children.  Larry attended Brother Martin High School and later studied at the University of New Orleans.  One of his first jobs was working at Doc’s Bar & Grill with his mother until they moved to Kenner.  He grew up in Kenner and later worked as a roofer with Lawrence Roofing Company.  Larry joined the army in November 1977, where he served as a guard of an ammunition post that was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged as a marksman in November 1983.

One of the highlights of Larry’s life took place in 1990, when he met the love of his life, Gladys M. Johnson.  They were married on February 16, 2002 and grew to be best of friends in health and in sickness. To his wife, he will always be the best part of who she is, and to his children, he will always be a great listener and teacher. Their experiences together led them through the evacuation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and re-established them in Houston, Texas.  Their next transition was in 2014 when Larry & Gladys Moore joined the New Direction Community of Love Church Family and in that same year decided to renew their vows.  He was a faithful member to the NDCOLC church until his health failed him.

Larry had a beauty in his heart that never wavered for he spent time doing what he loved the most and that was reading his bible, listening to gospel music and fishing. He lived his life loved by everyone and was never easily upset.  Larry battled this sickness for over 18 years, with his faithful wife by his side, she can testify that he never complained.  His display of strength was like the soldier he was in the army and he moved into his final chapter of life Larry C. Moore, Sr. entered into a new life with our Lord and Savior at 3:36 am, Sunday, August 25, 2019.

Larry leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 17 years, Gladys Moore and their blended family: Larry’s children: Percell Matthews (Riesha), Larry Moore, Jr., LaKesha Thompson, Latrisha(Buffy); Gladys’ children; Darrel Johnson, LeRoy Johnson, Ray Johnson (Desiria) and Jamal Johnson (Melanie); his siblings; Rev.
