Robert Nickson Obituary

Robert Nickson was born on December 1, 1953, in Lafayette, LA to Mandy Nickson and Earl Guidry.  He attended school systems in Beaumont, TX and Rayne, LA, and furthered his education in the Job Corps. Robert was a kind person who never met a stranger.  He loved his family.  He knew his way around the kitchen and the BBQ pit.  His homemade pralines were a family favorite. Everyone knew he loved to eat and was always fashionably dressed. Robert accepted Jesus Christ at a very early age at Starlight Baptist Church in Rayne, LA.  Robert was called into the ministry in his early twenties and preached his first sermon in July 1988 at Community Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Felton Tisino, Sr. (deceased) where he served as Asst. Pastor and organist/director. He later united with Free Community MBC where he served as keyboard player.  He was a gifted musician, gospel singer, director, and preacher that ministered in music and spoken word that touched many lives throughout Texas and Louisiana.  He organized and played for many gospel groups over the years.  Robert would frequently sing, “I Am A Living Testimony”.  He understood by God’s Grace “that a saint is just a sinner who fell down but got up.” Because Jesus got up from the grave, he could rise above life’s challenges.

Rev. Robert Nickson was preceded in death by his mother, Mandy Nickson Broussard and stepfather John Adam Broussard, Sr., brothers, Earl Guidry Jr. & Jimmy Guidry; sister: Carlene Wilson;; and a grandson: Brylon Randall.
